In the tumble down
where the scrapes
felt permanent
and the pain stung
for what felt
like forever.
In the place where I don’t know where
the words you strap to my waist
fit
and hold like a little black dress suffocating
my body.
Inside the restlessness that imprisons
and smokescreens
the heart palpitations that once
pulsed to the sound
of your breaths.
In all the after words that drowned
the way our souls folded
like the waves that still
turn to the remnants of
our brokenness.
In all that’s been torn down
and dissolved to ash
we forgot the piece that still
makes me forget the fall…
how we laughed.
