Death in Silence (Suicide Prevention)

September is National Suicide Prevention Month and in this month, a beautiful soul I knew, took their own life. It’s a surreal feeling to lose someone in any manner and a confusing one to lose them by their own hand.

Don’t wait to reach out when things become too much. There is hope and there is help.

“You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I’ll rise!”—Maya Angelou

Silence in a secret place builds clouds in darkness we can’t always reach. It boils and rises to the surface, breaking us down, and stripping us of our purpose.

I rise. Because breaking the silence breaks the cycle.

I rise. Because speaking my pain no longer shames.

I face my wrongs, my fears, and the evil in this place. I rise. Because it’s time to save a life… and breaking the silence can sometimes vomit the pills, remove the barrels, and let down the ropes. Don’t ignore the opportunity to be the hand, perhaps the one good thing, needed in that so very important, broken moment.

Break your silence and be aware of those who may be fighting with theirs.
